Petra Erlandson: Thoughts on NSF/ANSI 173 Joint Committee Meeting 2025

Directly on the heels of SupplySide Global, I made a quick turnaround and flew to Detroit for the NSF/ANSI 173 Joint Committee meeting at NSF International’s headquarters in Ann Arbor. If you’re not familiar with it, NSF/ANSI 173 is the voluntary American National Standard for dietary supplements product quality and safety.

Experts from across the industry gather together: manufacturers, certifying bodies, testing labs, retailers, and public health professionals. Together, we discussed continuous improvement of the standard to ensure it reflects the realities of modern supplement, production, labeling, testing, and safety. It was a great demonstration of how much collaboration goes into keeping our industry standards strong, quality high and consumers protected.

If this kind of work sparks your curiosity, let me know! The Joint Committee is seeking new members and observers. Getting involved means contributing your expertise and perspective to the ongoing evolution of supplement quality standards. Personally, being part of this committee is an honor for me. It’s so rewarding to help shape standards that strengthen trust in the products people use to support their health every day.
